The Holocaust in capitals does specifically mean the Jewish one, holocaust doesn't but most only relate it to WW2.

Barton should definitely not apologise because firstly no offence has been taken by anyone adult and sentient. Secondly such is Barton’s lack of ability to choose the right words for an occasion he might end up inadvertently providing more ammunition for the stirrers.

All he should say is that the word Holocaust is a noun which he used. He wasn't aware that it had been trademarked specifically for use only when you are referring to the extermination of Jewish people by the Nazi's.
He could say that now he knows he won't use it again and apologise.
It may make people realise how stupid they are at being offended by it. But, then again, he was also stupid to use it because its fucking obvious what was going to happen.
